National Database of Swedish Photographers
The National Database of Swedish Photographers contains records about more than 1 600 photographers that have been active from around 1840 until today. The purpose of the database is to map the photographers whose photographs are stored in Swedish archives, libraries and museums. The database also contains information from earlier public records, about people that have worked as photographers in the 19th and early 20th century, whose photographs have not been saved in public institutions.

The database was published end of March 2008. It will be updated regularely by Swedish archives, libraries and museums. The National Database of Swedish Photographers has been developed, published and will be maintained by Fotosekretariatet, The Swedish Secretariat of Photographic Collections.

About The Swedish Secretariat of Photographic Collections
The Swedish Secretariat of Photographic Collections is situated at Nordiska Museet (Nordic Museum of Cultural
History) in Stockholm, holder of one of the most important cultural historical photographic collections in Sweden.

The principal aim of the secretariat is to strengthen the significance of photographic collections in archives, libraries and museums. This includes an advisory role as well as organising educational seminars and conferences, and also making research on photography known to a wider audience. A reference group with delegates from archives, libraries and museums supports the secretariat with expert knowledge and advice.

The secretariat is responsible for a website containing educational material as well as information on best practices concerning collections management and digitization. An e-newsletter is distributed four times
per year reaching a large audience in the Nordic countries.
